Saxophonist, from Cuba to Miami Luiso

The story
He started at five, in Cuba, learning from his father. Today he lives in Miami and plays in Pitbull's band. Between those two moments there is one straight line, and it is the sound.
Luis Diomedis Guerra Pérez, known as Luiso, is a saxophonist, composer, and educator. His playing comes out of a deliberately wide training: classical, jazz, pop, funk, ballad, and Latin jazz, all living in the same instrument.
He comes from a family of artists: his father a Cuban saxophonist and educator, his mother a dancer.
His first teacher was his father.
At ten he entered the Escuela Vocacional de Arte in Matanzas and left at fifteen with a Gold Diploma in saxophone. Then came the Escuela Nacional de Arte in Havana, where he met and accompanied Wynton Marsalis, competed in international jazz contests, and was part of the academy's JazzBand, a stage that proved decisive for his career.
In January 2013 he auditioned for the University of the Arts (ISA) and won one of the five places awarded nationwide. Those years were magic. His first work as a lead saxophonist arrived with Waldo Mendoza, Habana Abierta, and Leoni Torres, one of the most important artists he has worked with: together they toured Cuba, recorded albums and music videos that won awards on the island, and toured internationally through Europe and Latin America. Along the way he accompanied Pablo Milanés, Gente de Zona, Pancho Céspedes, Willy Chirino, and Jacob Forever, among many other Cuban artists.
In 2021 he moved to Miami, and the city brought the Billboard Latin Music Awards: Elvis Crespo in 2022, Olga Tañón in 2023, along with recordings with Paulina Rubio and Maffio.
In early 2024 he got the call to join the band of Armando Christian Pérez, Pitbull. It began with a full United States tour, and he has been touring the world ever since, playing arenas and stadiums across several continents, sharing the stage with T-Pain, Jon Bon Jovi, Lil Jon, Mariah Carey, and Wiz Khalifa. With that band he has played BST Hyde Park in London, Lollapalooza Berlin, Stagecoach, Tinderbox, Werchter Boutique, Bésame Mucho, and MDLBEAST Soundstorm in Riyadh, and productions such as the Latin GRAMMYs and Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2026. Hyde Park, with the park full and a Guinness World Record involved, is still the biggest night.
His Yamaha YAS-62 has been with him for more than a decade, in the same case, from one island to another continent; by now it is less an instrument than a voice. To the tradition of the saxophone he adds the Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI), which opens another palette and another way of moving on stage. The technique is classical; the result is contemporary. He is a Yamaha, D'Addario, and Akai Professional artist.
And he still teaches, which is the other half of the craft, the half he learned at home.

Luis Diomedis Guerra Pérez, Luiso, es saxofonista, compositor y educador. Su manera de tocar viene de una formación deliberadamente ancha: clásico, jazz, pop, funk, balada y Latin jazz, todo conviviendo en el mismo instrumento.
Viene de una familia de artistas: su padre, saxofonista y educador cubano; su madre, bailarina.
Su primer maestro fue su padre.
A los diez años entró en la Escuela Vocacional de Arte de Matanzas y salió a los quince con Título de Oro en saxofón. Después vino la Escuela Nacional de Arte, en La Habana: allí conoció y acompañó a Wynton Marsalis, compitió en concursos internacionales de jazz y formó parte de la JazzBand de la academia, una etapa que resultó decisiva para su carrera.
En enero de 2013 se presentó a las pruebas de la Universidad de las Artes (ISA) y obtuvo una de las cinco plazas que se daban en todo el país. Aquellos años fueron mágicos. Llegaron sus primeros trabajos como saxofonista solista con Waldo Mendoza, Habana Abierta y Leoni Torres, uno de los artistas más importantes con los que ha trabajado: con él hizo giras nacionales, grabó discos y videos premiados en Cuba y salió de gira internacional por Europa y Latinoamérica. En el camino acompañó a Pablo Milanés, Gente de Zona, Pancho Céspedes, Willy Chirino y Jacob Forever, entre muchos otros artistas cubanos.
En 2021 se mudó a Miami, y con la ciudad llegaron los Premios Billboard de la Música Latina: Elvis Crespo en 2022, Olga Tañón en 2023, además de grabaciones con Paulina Rubio y Maffio.
A principios de 2024 recibió la llamada para entrar en la banda de Armando Christian Pérez, Pitbull. Empezó con una gira completa por Estados Unidos y desde entonces gira por el mundo, en arenas y estadios de varios continentes, compartiendo escenario con T-Pain, Jon Bon Jovi, Lil Jon, Mariah Carey y Wiz Khalifa. Con esa banda ha tocado en BST Hyde Park de Londres, Lollapalooza Berlín, Stagecoach, Tinderbox, Werchter Boutique, Bésame Mucho y MDLBEAST Soundstorm en Riad, y en producciones como los Latin GRAMMY y el Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2026. Hyde Park, con el parque lleno y un Récord Guinness de por medio, sigue siendo la noche más grande.
